Catch O’ The Bay: Dave Bergman

Dave Bergman, former backup first baseman for the Astros and Tigers, passed away almost three weeks ago on February 2, 2015, due to cancer.

I had been planning to write to Dave, and kept putting it off, which made me particularly sad to learn the news of his death.

He was never a master with the bat, but he certainly knew the hidden ball trick well.

I did something I normally don’t do and hopped on eBay shortly after I’d heard the news, wanting to find an autographed card quickly. I landed on this 1981 Topps and made an offer, securing his signature for my Astros Autographs collection.
