Trading with Wes at Jaybarkerfan

Ok, I mentioned the other day that there were two massive trades in Domeland. The other package that landed in my mailbox was another doozy, and this bundle came from Wes over at Jaybarkerfan’s Junk. I’d sent over a bundle of mascots and a few Josh Willingham cards – including one of those neat looking Pinnacle Vision inserts from 2013. I think it’s safe to say that I underestimated the commitment Wes has to putting good things into the hands of another trader. My goodness.

I mean, just look at the stack to the right  up there. It’s packed full of Astros, from commons to some pretty damn nice hits. Wes even found some of the 1990 Topps Coins I need to finish off my set – just a few more and I’ll be there. So, with some inspiration from Roy O’s refractored business face, let’s get down to examining some of this excellent package.

We’ll start with some of the 2013 Topps Mini set. Very welcome additions, indeed. Oh, and while we’re on this subject – does anyone know where to find the mini pages? I need a handful of them now – but there’s no need to plunk down for a box. It seems like everyone has this problem. Perhaps we should get one blogger to break a box up for the rest of us.

More shiny cards, this time in Chrome Refractor format.

Ok, this is a really funny occurrence – I wound up with two of this Berkman card as a result of these trades. Prior to that, zero. There were actually about half a dozen matching cards between the two packages.
That’s a really nice Topps Gallery card of Biggio. I remember the brand, but I don’t believe I’ve ever seen this year before. Well done.

Here we have some nice looking appearances at the plate by a pair of guys who were members of Astros families. I remember how hard it was to track down these Black Diamond parallels.

How’s about a pair of Astros in the Hall of Fame? There’s still no one wearing an Astros cap, though – hopefully Biggio gets elected this year and changes that.

More refractors! A haul like this makes me feel bad that my collection isn’t loaded with stuff like this that my fellow traders would want – I have precious few shiny things as I missed a lot of that period of collecting.

Next up: Astros shortstops. That’s probably one of the best recorded swings Adam Everett ever took. We’ve been pretty shortstop-poor throughout our history as a club, preferring to focus on defense. When we plunked down for Tejada though, we picked up an overpriced and underperforming bat with diminishing range. Let’s try to forget that one.

Geez, do I miss having Hunter Pence in right field. Maybe not so frequently nowadays, but I always liked him. He plays with this reckless intensity that’s just enthralling. Look at that card!
Now for the hits. Wes really knocked it out of the park here. First up is some ink from a few guys whose careers might not have been brilliant, but who are certainly welcome additions to the collection. The Gimenez card fulfilled one of my needs for my All-Time Roster collection.
Of course, I saved the best for last…

Hits on hits on hits! Lookit that fantastic cardboard. Swatches, a bat, and some ink from one of our top Prospects.

Wes, I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to repay you properly for all this, but I sure hope I can find something for you. Thanks for all of the great cards.

  1. At least I'm not the only one who says this: "Wes, I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to repay you properly for all this, but I sure hope I can find something for you. Thanks for all of the great cards."

I'm still looking for cards to send his way! LOL
