Belated Bragging, No Purchase Necessary

Last month I opened the ol’ mailbox to find a mysterious bubble mailer from some unknown place – not once, but twice.
As it turns out, Panini decided to send me some free cards. How did I manage that? Well, it’s the same process that dayf details at the beginning of this Cardboard Junkie post. In fact, I distinctly remember mailing in the index cards not more than a week before his post went up, because I remember thinking, “hah! I just did that.”
Well, perhaps no one else saw fit to mail in to ol’ Panini because of their lack of logos, but I liked Donruss and Golden Age a lot last year.
They sent along two of the Breakout Hitters inserts from 2014 Donruss, featuring Anthony Rendon and Jedd Gyorko. At one point I thought I might try to piece this insert together, but then the collation in Donruss packs was so bad that I decided it wasn’t worth it. I’ll hang on to Rendon, he’s a hometown boy that played college ball at Rice, but Gyorko is up for grabs.
I got one of the ballplayers from Golden Age, which are really the only cards I care about from the set. Well, except for the Willie Nelson relic which I had to hunt down a blaster to find. Fortunately for me, I didn’t have the Eddie Plank yet. The Tatum O’Neal is from the Fan Craze insert set. It’s nice looking, but not of interest to me. Guys (and gals), she’s available.
So, it just goes to show that you should indeed send in those No Purchase Necessary cards. Or, um, wait. No one else do it. Maybe I can still keep getting free cards that way.

P.S. If anyone has dupes of the ’13 National Game insert from 2014 Golden Age, let me know. I’m highly interested.

  1. I've gotten some good stuff from their NPN. Even an autograph. But…they also have a tendency of sending base cards. Not that I mind for the most part, but for 2013-14 Prestige (NBA) I got a base card that I already had something like 3 or 4 copies of. I have not won any since then, either.

I am still trying to figure out why I never tried for any of these in the past…I didn't send my first until 2012.
